Reflecting On Our First Year of Marriage

Dear sweet newlyweds,

We cannot believe that we are celebrating our first year of marriage!!  WHAT?!  Where in the world did the time go?! We are dreaming back to our sweet wedding day and as we celebrate this past year, we find ourself reflecting on everything we’ve been through!  One WHOLE year…Time flies!!  

It’s the STRANGEST thing… you’ve woken up, and your wedding day has passed. The honeymoon is done and all of the sudden you’re back to the real world. You find yourself tiptoeing around with a cool new title and a strange shift in heart. No one tells you about that sweet shift that happens in your soul!! There are deep down changes that you can feel down into your core. All of sudden you have gone from boyfriend/girlfriend, to fiancee, and now you’re finally married. MARRIED!! Although you’ve waited for this your whole life, it still feels so strange…almost indescribable!  Your roles are different now no matter how long you have been together or lived together. You now have a deeper connection with your partner. You and your spouse are now teammates more than you have ever been! Take time to figure out your new roles and relish in that sweet new feeling in your hearts!

Figuring out how to live life as husband and wife was an amazing adventure.  One of the first things that we did as newlyweds was ask couples that had been married for decades what kind of advice they had to give to newlyweds. (Always go straight to the pros for advice! lol). All of the answers were pretty much the same! Our favorite one?? A sweet gentleman looked at wife with an endearing look & told us to “always be friends first’.  She smiled back and happily agreed with him…That little bit of advice really helped us out during our first year. We constantly found ourselves coming back to that “friends first” thing. Our love & friendship will always come first!

Being part of a team has such a deep meaning to us now. We always love each other. We respect one another & try to always put each other first. If you can be friends first, marriage is a breeze (most of the time LOL). This first year has been the most magical and thrilling year of our lives — AHHH!! Remember to lean on each other through thick and thin, love big and treasure alllll the little moments. Enjoy this first year because before you know it, you’ll be welcoming year #2…they don’t like when they say time flies when you’re having fun!
