How did you meet?!

“Our mutual friends set us up for my sorority barn dance 🙂 Shout out to Steven Childs!!”

When did you start dating?

“During the fall of 2017!”

What was your first date?!

“Technically, our first date was a Delta Gamma barn dance at IU when our friends set us up. But we then went out for dinner together at Three Amigos, a Mexican restaurant in Bloomington, a week or so later, which we consider our “first date.””

Do you have a favorite date you’ve ever been on together?

“Our favorite date was definitely when we rented a boat for a few hours on Lake Como in Italy. We drove the small boat around the lake just the two of us and enjoyed some delicious pastries and sandwiches while taking in the most amazing views. It was a perfect day!”

When did you get engaged?

“April 28, 2023!”

How did he propose?!

“Corey made a dinner reservation at my favorite restaurant in Chicago, Gibson’s Italia. He made the reservation quite a bit in advance and said it was to celebrate the end of my law school classes as I was finishing up my final year of law school. When the day came, he stopped by my apartment to pick me up and, like always, I was running late. He was so nervous and pacing around my kitchen while my brother tried to make small talk and calm him down. I was finally ready, and we walked over to the restaurant which is located in a stunning spot on the Chicago River. As we approached the restaurant, he stopped and asked me if I wanted to take a selfie, which was super bizarre for him (he usually hates pictures). When I turned around, he grabbed my hands and started giving me a little speech, got down on a knee, and asked me to marry him! I cried and said yes! We then had the best dinner, and I was on cloud 9, but I didn’t know he had more in store. After dinner, we headed to a bar where I thought we were just meeting up with a friend of mine who was in town, but it turns out Corey had organized an entire surprise engagement party with our families and friends! It was the best night ever :)”

What would the perfect date night look like or include?

“The perfect date night would include some delicious espresso martinis and a lovely outdoor restaurant with a view. We love to try new restaurants around the city together!”

What are your favorite movies?

“This is a sensitive question for us because Corey is a HUGE movie lover, but I can’t stay awake during a movie to save my life! His two favorites are Lord of the Rings and The Dark Knight. He loves action movies and also sci-fi movies like Star Wars and Dune. My movie taste is basically the opposite (and not very sophisticated!) – I love dramas and rom-coms. My favorite movie is probably either The Devil Wears Prada or She’s the Man.”

What’s your favorite way to spend the weekend?

“We love to go on long walks, go shopping, go out to eat, and spend time with friends and family on Fridays and Saturdays. We love lazy Sundays curled up on the couch, especially during football season!”

For the bride: What are three things you love about your groom?

“I love his kind heart, his goofy personality, and his passion for all of the things he loves. I have never met someone who is so dedicated to his career, hobbies, and passions. He pours 110% of himself into the things and people that he loves. He makes me laugh every single day, and I love that I can be so authentically myself around him. He’s my favorite person to be around, and he brightens my days with his jokes and fun-loving spirit.”

For the groom: What are three things you love about your bride?

“I love her goofiness, her work ethic, and her kindness. She instantly brightens everyone’s day and lights up a room with her energy, personality, and kindness. Dull moments where we are just sitting around become extremely entertaining with Maddie, and no one can make me laugh the way that she can. She’s one of the smartest and hardest working people I’ve ever met. I fall in love with her all over again every single day.”

If you could go anywhere on a vacation, where would you go?

“A safari in Africa!!! We love animals and think it would be SO cool to go on a safari and see amazing animals in the wild.”

What’s something you are both passionate about (in life)?

“We are both very passionate about our education and careers! Though we are in different fields (I’m a new attorney and Corey works in corporate finance), we enjoy talking about our work and career goals together and helping each other grow. We are both extremely supportive of each other (especially Corey who was by my side throughout the highs and lows of law school), and we love to see each other succeed.”

What was your favorite part of the engagement session?

“We loved how easy and fun Bret and Brandie made it! We wouldn’t consider ourselves comfortable in front of the camera, but Bret and Brandie truly made it so much fun and so comfortable. We were laughing the entire time, and we can’t wait to spend our wedding day with Bret and Brandie! They are the best!!!”

Where did her outfits come from?

“My white dress was from Revolve, my sweater and pants were both from Zara, and both pairs of shoes were from Dolce Vita!”

Where did his outfits come from?

“His suit was from Hugo Boss, his khaki pants were from LuluLemon, and his shirt was from Zara! :)”

Advice for other couples who are prepping for their engagement session?

“Have fun with it and do not put too much pressure on yourself! All you need to do is pick some outfits that you are excited about and feel comfortable in, and Bret and Brandie will do the rest! They make it so natural and comfortable, you have nothing to worry about. You are in the best hands and will have so much fun!”
