“We had a mix of colors. We had anywhere from pinks and whites, to baby blues, yellows, and orange. We wanted something that was bright, airy, and romantic. Our florist NAILED our dream and the floral arch on top of the fireplace. We were aiming for a romantic/cozy vibe. The bright colors were softened by wood tones through chairs, accents, etc. to give the guests romantic but inviting vibes. We wanted people to feel comfortable and at home. We are original from Indiana, but when I, (Mackenzie), visited the White Chateau in Owensboro, KY, I knew it was where I was meant to be married. I walked in and just had the, “When you know, you know”, feeling, which is how my whole wedding was really centered around. Not being forced and trying to trust the process, while also dealing with my type A personality, which is a blessing and a curse. If I saw something and immediately fell in love, I went with it, I feel like that is how relationships, friendships, etc. start, so I thought for a wedding it’s only appropriate to feel the same. We wanted people to have fun and be comfortable as we were taking pictures since we decided not to do a first look. Suzanne from White Chateau actually mentioned serving dinner while we were being photographed, and that was a genius idea. We actually ended up inside for our ceremony and reception, but the idea was smooth and flawless, and if that is something we would recommend, we would. It also helps past the time so guests aren’t waiting on you to eat etc.”
“Seeing Jourdan for the first time as I was walking down the aisle to stand beside him for the rest of life. I am a very sentimental and meaningful person, so seeing my best friend stand at the alter was very emotional and a happy time. Reading our vows to each other was very important to me, I felt the words deeply as I said them.” -Mackenzie
“Mackenzie will be finishing graduate school in the summer! Moxen starts pre-school in the upcoming fall. We are planning on going on our honeymoon in January! Yay!”
“I love Jourdan’s ability to make me laugh. He always keeps me grounded and reminds me to live in the moment. He is my biggest supporter and my best friend. We have been through so much “life” together, and I honestly couldn’t imagine experiencing those life changing moments with anyone else. He is sweet and reminds me how much I am loved with little things he does, whether it be picking up my favorite ice cream after a tough exam, or telling me to take care of my mental health. Times haven’t always been easy with all of our relationship involving me and school, starting with my two undergraduate degrees, to now my graduate degree and master’s. He has been my support and someone to lean on when I can’t find the strength to stand or feel like it is all too much. He is my best friend and still keeps me on my toes, just like the day we first met.”
“Mackenzie is a 100% goof ball. She is just an all around funny person. She keeps me laughing with her (weird) personality. When she loves, she loves hard. She would give the shirt off her back if someone needed it more than her. She is forgiving, and not the bring it up 10 months later in a fight, kind. She is headstrong and goal driven. I have never seen anyone more dedicated to building the life she has always dreamed of. She is nice to have in your corner after a long and tiring day. She is loyal and loving. Finally, have you seen her?! She is drop-dead gorgeous!”
“I hate to say this, but myself. I knew what I wanted, and I didn’t try to settle from all the tiny details to my vendors. I researched A LOT and knew what vendors I wanted and one of the vendors fell into my lap, and was a huge blessing. I think my vendors had a HUGE part in helping me create and execute the wedding of my dreams and decrease any anxiety that unfortunately comes with wedding planning. I was always bouncing ideas off them (the vendors), and they would give me feedback and were always helpful, enthusiastic, and insightful.”
“Everyone says you don’t need more than a year to get married. We took a two year engagement because of school and it was the biggest blessing. We were able to snag all the vendors we wanted while also being able to plan every last detail of our wedding. Our best advice is the day is about you TWO, not your family, friends, etc. Do what makes YOU BOTH happy. You want to be able to look back on your wedding day and think, “Wow that was a beautiful day surrounded with the people who we hold near and dear to our hearts”. Do everything and keep each other in mind when planning. If you do something that isn’t normal without the other being involved, it can create a little tension between you two, which is what you obviously don’t want! No matter how much the other one says, “I don’t care you pick babe”, still involve them! This is their big day too! At the end of the day, you are marrying your best friend and pledging to spend your lives together, don’t worry about what others think and do what you two love and what brings you joy.”
“Mackenzie- Jourdan smashing the whole cake in my face. I am still plotting my pay back. Jourdan- I never cared about a big wedding and ceremony and always wanted to elope and have a big party when we got back, if you will. I am so glad Mackenzie wanted to have our friends and family present on this day. It meant so much to me seeing the love and support our marriage has and everyone praying over us and wanting nothing but success for us moving forward.”
“We tried to include our families in our wedding where we could. Our song was our ring bearer. Our niece and our best friends’ baby girl were our flower girls. Jourdan’s little sisters helped our flower girls and our son down the aisle and were super awesome with the kids and also were beautiful incorporations in our ceremony. We had cousins sing as Mackenzie walked down the aisle and also read our scripture readings during the ceremony. Our two cousins sang as Mackenzie came down the aisle, which was super special and meaningful. It was a beautiful addition to the wedding and was also very sentimental.
“Friend Medley: Lean on Me / Stand By Me / Time After Time / I’ll Be There For You | Anthem Lights”
“You are the reason- Calum Scott and Leona Lewis. Our two cousins sang a cover of a mash-up of songs as Mackenzie walked down the aisle, which was very special to us.”
“Dinner was buffet style, which we loved because people could grab what they wanted and even go back for seconds without feeling any pressure!”
“We provided wine, beer, and wine slushees to our guests”
“We had a four tier cake and three different flavored “specialty” cupcakes, which were a huge hit!”
“Yes! We wanted something people could reuse year after year, while thanking them for celebrating us on our big day. We had Christmas ornaments engraved with our original monogram we purchased from our stationary vendor with our wedding date, location, and a little note thanking them for coming.”
“Don’t try to make vendors, people, etc. work out in your favor. If it doesn’t bring you JOY move forward, it wasn’t meant to be. This is supposed to be an EXCITING time, and if parts of planning bring you stress related to vendors not responding etc., MOVE ON. You don’t have to deal with people who are not completely and totally there for you (and you shouldn’t have to settle, it’s your day)!”
