We are sooo excited to share the first peek into Kara and John’s wedding day at Burdoc Farms!! We absolutely fell in love with Kara and John when we first hung out with them at their dreamy downtown Evansville, Indiana engagement session. Needless to say, this wedding was very much anticipated.
We were so excited to get to shoot at their venue. We had heard lots about this amazing events venue but had never had the chance to shoot a wedding there because it is a little bit far from our hometown. We were so lucky to get to travel to Crofton, Kentucky to capture their wedding at Burdoc Farms. Kara and John got married in early December which in the midwest means that you never really know what the weather will be doing. The whole week leading up to the wedding showed a forecast that was all over the place. Bret and I packed our clear umbrellas our handy wagon just in case. We always try to remind our couples that if the weather is bad, that is not what matters at the end of the day…No matter what happens, they are still getting married!!
On our way down to Burdoc Farms, Bret and I drove through two hours of nonstop rain. That all changed when we walked into bridal suite though. It was almost like a ray of sunshine beaming in on us with all of the smiles and giggles in the room. All of the bridesmaids in that room were just thrilled that Kara and John were tying the knot. I love watching a bride and groom being showered with so much love and adoration from their loved ones — it legit makes my heart smile!! I spent the morning with them while Bret did his detail shots around the venue. He had so many choices for shots — dreamy farmhouse tables, loads of eucalyptus, and charm galore. The place was dripping with character. There was a full wall of windows that allowed so much dreamy natural light to pour in — legitimately a photographer’s dream!!! Bret was blown away with all the detail shots he was able to capture!
Before we knew it, Kara’s bridesmaids helped her slip into her beautiful wedding gown — I have a current obsession with sleeves (I mean how could I not?!?) Did I mention the greenery crown that Kara had on?!?! ABSOLUTELY. OBSESSED. Once dressed, we ventured out for Kara and John’s first look. The exact moment that we got them positioned and ready for the reveal, it started thundering and lightening!! No joke, I am talking horrendous weather! But, in the midst of all the wind, and major storms, it was as if Kara and John didn’t have any worries in the world. They were so stinking excited that I am not even sure that they knew it was storming!! Each of them were so immersed and lost in the moment, that they didn’t even feel the rain. My heart may have grew a few sizes as I watched them laugh and cuddle under that dreary sky!! We gave them some clear umbrellas for safety and headed back to the barn as quickly as possible. Thankfully, when we arrived the rain subsided and we were able to knock out all of the portraits before the ceremony. I was in complete adoration as I watched the bridal party so full of joy for their friends.
Next up, comes my absolute favorite part of day!! Kara knew that she wanted field photos on her wedding day. We had discussed it multiple times and Burdoc Farms was the perfect venue because the place is surrounded by them. But, due to the copious amounts of rain that we had received, the fields were very wet, gross, and muddy. Kara’s mindset was that she was only going to get married once and she wanted to enjoy every single moment!! She still wanted the photos, so by golly, we were going to capture those shots! Just imagine barefoot Kara going through a muddy field while barefoot Brandie was carrying her dress to make sure absolutely nothing touched that gorgeous dress!! We found the perfect dreamy field and the photos were to-die-for. Kara was SOO happy!!! And believe it or not, we made it out of that muddy field without one stain or blemish on that gown. Bret and I absolutely love adventurous brides that have that go-with-it attitude! For this sweet couple, their wedding day could have been a rainy, stressful day, but they embraced it with a positive attitude!! We just LOVE you two SO much!!
Kara and John tied the knot outside the barn overlooking the lake. Their ceremony was short and sweet and full of so many personal touches! After the ceremony, the real party started! Kara and John danced the night away, filled their bellies with the best food and had the time of their lives with the ones closest to them! We hope you all love your sneak peek — we can’t wait to show you the rest!!
